Besides all this Christmas hustle and bustle, Strasbourg is a charming little place which is always a good place to visit both in cold and hot time of the year. It’s not easy to get lost in this cosy town looking more like any other German place – it is this architectural and cultural diversity that makes France so special. A day for a good walking tour around should suffice before heading to other marvelous spots of Alsace region.

Notre Dame de Strasbourg

It is impossible to miss and however strict it might seem, the cathedral is gloomily imposing in the heart of the old town. A real masterpiece of the Gothic architecture.  However, do get on the tour for the view of the Strasbourg city-centre, which looks ever so tiny from the building that up to XIX century used to be the tallest in the history of Christianity.

Petite France

Which means Little France is an old town of the city, and probably the busiest place with the tourists. The quays are gorgeous!

Barrage Vauban

A defensive bridge looks particularly beautiful at night. You can easily walk through and to see the old statues kept inside.

If you want to see some museums, do it. Want to try traditional cuisine (which looks for 95% like a German one) – do it. Don’t forget to pay your attention to the thousands of storks – a symbol of the region of Alsace.

Every time we are in Strasbourg, we help ourselves with the cheese from Monoprix and a pretzel from the numerous bakeries, which are still totally French. :)

By the way, Strasbourg is one of the top most cycling cities of Europe, so feel free to have a ride on those green city bikes. :)
