January 2017

When you forget why exactly you are still living there, where nothing retains you anymore, the solution is to go walking. Fortunately, England offers various walking trails, and lucky us happen to live near one of them.

Grosmont & Goathland is an easy path joining two picturesque villages following the ancient railway connection. Despite the high popularity with tourists, middle of January turned to be a perfect period for some private time with nature.

8 miles distance through Yorkshire Moors and typical English scenery, including old-fashioned railway stations, farms, red telephone cabins and pubs. Dreams about rural England coming true. Golden light, a sparkling layer of snow on the hills, sheep that from a distance remind fluffy snowflakes.

By the way, the railway station in Goathland was filmed in Harry Potter movies as Hogsmeade station where the Hogwarts Express was arriving from London. During the season, there is an old steam-train making the connection between Whitby and Pickering. Another old-time experience!

British love to hikes, muddy boots and lots of fresh air is something that will stay with us for the years coming. It’s here in Britain that we first opened ourselves to the “ordinary” nature and started paying close attention to what surrounded us. Who knew there were so many wonders around! The British apparently…

A simple walk like that wouldn’t normally make it to this blog but I wanted so much to hold this moment of serenity, of the new years’s expecting joy and capture this day of wildrness that here we are. I feel a lot of amazement every time I open this post, I mean – look at this Robin and squirrel! They are so beautiful, aren’t they?
